Kanaway Android privacy policy

This policy covers Kanaway for Android, provided by Rocket Digital Limited. Contact hello@rocketdigital.ai for privacy questions or requests.

Learning on your device

Ordinary lessons, saved words, review schedules, scores, goals and preferences are stored on your device. You can use local learning without creating an email account. Removing the app or resetting its data removes local information, subject to backups managed by your device.

Accounts and optional cloud progress

Firebase Authentication provides an installation or account identifier. If you create an account, Firebase processes your email address and authentication credentials. Optional account backup stores learning progress in Cloud Firestore so you can recover and synchronise it. We use this information to operate your account, protect access and provide the backup you choose. We do not use account data for advertising.

AI conversation practice

AI Chat is optional. When you use it, your message, recent conversation context, selected Japanese level, scenario and interface language are sent through our Firebase backend to OpenAI to generate a reply, translation and learning feedback. Input and output are also checked for unsafe content. Do not include sensitive personal information. AI can make mistakes.

Our backend does not save the ordinary chat transcript. It keeps pseudonymous request identifiers, status, timestamps and usage records for security, reliability, billing and duplicate-request protection. We request OpenAI responses with storage disabled. OpenAI may retain API content for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring, subject to its applicable terms and legal requirements. API content is not used to train OpenAI models by default. Manga generation is not available in the Android app.

Reporting AI content

You can report an AI response from inside the Android app. A report sends the selected response, category, any explanation you add, language, request identifiers and a pseudonymous account identifier to our private Firebase records. We use reports to investigate unsafe or incorrect output and improve the service. Reports are not public. They remain available while needed for investigation and follow-up; account-linked reports are removed when the account is deleted, except information we must retain for a legal obligation.

Purchases

Google Play handles payments. RevenueCat and our backend process a pseudonymous user identifier, product and subscription identifiers, purchase history, transaction status and entitlement information to provide Premium, restore purchases and prevent fraud. We do not receive your full card or bank details. Store and entitlement records may remain where needed for accounting, legal obligations or fraud prevention. Deleting a Kanaway account does not cancel a Google Play subscription.

Microphone and pronunciation

If you choose a recording exercise and grant microphone access, your practice recording stays on your device and is not uploaded by Kanaway. Japanese pronunciation uses the text-to-speech service configured on your device; processing depends on that service and your voice settings. You can revoke microphone permission in Android Settings.

Technical information and service providers

Google/Firebase, Google Play Integrity and RevenueCat may process installation or user identifiers, IP addresses, device and app information, request activity and diagnostic information to deliver, secure and troubleshoot their services. Kanaway does not include third-party advertising or Firebase Analytics. Service providers process information on our behalf for the purposes described here; we do not sell personal information.

Firebase/Google, RevenueCat and OpenAI may process information outside your country, using safeguards required by applicable law. Connections to our backend use HTTPS encryption in transit. This is not a claim of end-to-end encryption.

Retention, deletion and your choices

Account and cloud progress data remain until you delete the account or ask us to remove them. You can delete your account in Settings under your account details. You can also request deletion without installing the app through our Android account deletion page. Pseudonymous security, usage and transaction records may be retained where necessary for service integrity or legal obligations. Support messages are kept only as reasonably needed to resolve the request and maintain an appropriate record.

Where applicable, our legal bases are providing the service you request, your permission for optional AI or microphone features, legitimate interests in security and reliability, and legal obligations. Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to processing, withdraw consent, or complain to a data protection authority. Contact hello@rocketdigital.ai to exercise these rights. Withdrawing optional AI permission means you should stop using AI Chat; local lessons remain available.

Age and changes

Kanaway targets teenagers aged 13 and above and adults, not children under 13. Where local law requires parental permission, obtain it before using an online service or making a purchase. We update this policy when our data practices change and provide notice where required.
